Nurturing Culture is Your Job
Too many leaders see intentionally caring and feeding their company culture as someone else's job.
As the leader of an organization, influencing and molding a strong culture is a necessary challenge that will deliver value to every aspect of your business and your stakeholders. It will pay off financially, as it drives employee motivation, engagement with work, attainment of goals, resiliency in the face of adversity, customer loyalty, while also mitigating the risk of illegal, unethical, or unsavory behavior.
This article (link below) presents three ways that leadership can influence culture:
ensuring alignment on mission, purpose, and vision
inspiring confidence in the face of challenges
and leveraging mistakes as a source of learning
I would add these two to the list:
instilling genuine and distinctive values into the everyday vernacular and behavior of the organization
authentically acting in alignment with the mission and values themselves
The article goes on to add, that effective leadership communication is essential in shaping culture. And adds some insightful guidance on how to communicate effectively.
Influencing your culture cannot be ignored. If you fail to be intentional about your organization’s culture, then an unsavory one may emerge.
